This issue of Profumo di Alfa is built around a series of anniversaries that help us revisit the brand’s history, without automatic celebrations. Sixty years ago, Battista Farina, aka Pininfarina, passed away. A name that had a profound impact on Italian design and, with Alfa Romeo, helped define a stylistic language that is still recognizable today. Remembering him means analyzing a method, an industrial and cultural vision, not just a signature.
Carrozzeria Touring was founded a hundred years ago. A Milanese company that made lightweight construction and technical research its hallmarks. Its contribution was fundamental: it changed the way cars were built. The GT 1300 Junior also celebrates its sixtieth anniversary, the coupé that combined affordability with a sporty identity, becoming a benchmark for generations.
Alongside the historical anniversaries, there’s also space for models closer in time: the Alfa Romeo 155 1.8 Twin Spark and its natural evolution, the Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 Twin Spark. Two sedans born in different contexts, but linked by a precise technical and dynamic set-up. Rereading them today helps us understand how Alfa Romeo has undergone a period of transformation while maintaining its own identity.
The number is rounded out by the people. Roberto Restelli, founder of Alfa Delta, represents the network of expertise that allows enthusiasts’ cars to continue to thrive on the racetracks. Elvira Ruocco, the Lady of Arese, offers firsthand testimony of what the factory has meant to those who have experienced it from the inside. Finally, the Clubs, where passion translates into concrete initiatives, rallies, restorations, and intergenerational exchanges.
We chose to build this issue around dates, but the true thread running through it isn’t the calendar. It’s continuity. The continuity between those who designed, those who built, those who led, and those who preserve and narrate today. If these pages can connect all of this, then the goal has been achieved.
Happy reading.
