Sandro Munari books

There are men in the world of sport – and beyond – whom we are almost inclined to consider immortal: sometimes because of the greatness of their achievements, sometimes because of their remarkable human qualities.
Sandro Munari (1940–2026) undoubtedly belonged to this rare category of people, both for the extraordinary level of his sporting accomplishments and for the frank and straightforward character that always distinguished him.

Born in Cavarzere, near Venice, and known as “Il Drago”, Munari was one of the greatest drivers in the history of international rallying and a central figure in the sporting legend of Lancia.
His name is inseparably linked with legendary rally cars such as the Lancia Fulvia HF and above all the Lancia Stratos HF, with which he achieved some of the most iconic victories of the 1970s.

Among his greatest achievements are four victories at the Monte Carlo Rally (1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977) and the title of FIA World Rally Champion in 1977, becoming the first Italian driver to win the championship.
His spectacular driving style and exceptional mechanical sensitivity made him one of the defining figures of rallying’s golden era.

At Giorgio Nada Editore, we had the honour of welcoming him among our authors when, in 2006, together with Sergio Remondino, he wrote the autobiographical book Una vita di traverso (“A Life Sideways”), recounting a career lived always at full speed.
The book quickly went out of print and was later republished in a new edition to ensure that his story could also reach younger generations who did not experience the unforgettable years of the “Drago”.
