The new Alfa Romeo fans

There are collectors, nostalgics of the “time gone by”, those who remember the noise of their father’s Giulietta or the smell of the interior of the 75 under the August sun. And then there are them: the new Alfa Romeo fans. Born and raised with the Alfas of the post-Arese era, designed on shared platforms, too often dismissed with condescension as “minor daughters” of the Biscione. Do we consider them second-rate Alfa Romeo fans? Not in the slightest. They are just younger than many of us, and their imagination was formed with cars that, rightly or wrongly, we sometimes snub. But the Alfa Romeo they know is the child of the same spirit that animated the House of Portello: that of innovation, of technical challenge, of driving with soul.

The truth is that every generation has its own Alfa. Our fathers fell in love with the De Dion rear-wheel drive. We became passionate about it when we discovered the transaxle layout and the on-board rear disc brakes of the Alfetta. Today, they talk about DNA, the electronic Q2 and how a well-tuned MiTo can still convey mechanical pleasure in a world filtered by chips and sensors.

Are we really sure that this isn’t true passion?

It’s time to look under the hood, to accept that evolution is not betrayal. It’s growth. And like every living passion, the passion for Alfa Romeo also changes skin, but never stops making the heart beat.

In this issue, then, we leave a little space for them too, for the young Alfa enthusiasts, for the often forgotten models, for a vision of Alfa that looks forward without erasing the past. Because the scent of the Biscione, after all, you can recognize it even with your eyes closed. The era changes, not the essence.
