Second year with you
And so 2023 also began, a new year but a vintage Alfa Romeo, because even if there are people who see the car as nothing more than a means of transport, maybe electric, and want it to be as unproblematic as possible from a regulatory, mechanical, fiscal point of view, fortunately there are as many who think differently. From the point of view of enthusiasts, the factors that affect our senses are as important as the appearance of the vehicle.
First, there is the sense of tact: but how does a vehicle feel? The most obvious and most important parameter on which this has an influence is the driving experience: how communicative is the steering wheel, the gear, the pedals? Rewarding the sense of touch is important even at a deeper level: people don’t imagine how the feeling of a switch or handle affects their overall impression of a car. The door handle, for example, is the first point of contact with a vehicle: making that of a premium plastic car disappoints the owner before he even sees the interior.
This discontent was never experienced 26 years ago by the buyers of the 156 who at the first contact with that beautiful protruding metal handle, at first realised that they were dealing with an important car, and reading the magazine you will understand why. And then there is the Alfa Romeo 33 that debuted with its two-and-a-half-volume bodywork in the 80s, a challenge to the aesthetic canons of the time won in a big way. Finally, to talk about the work of the coachbuilders, we made a jump in 1963 when the first Giulia 1.6 Promiscua took service at the Traffic Police with the task of watching over our safety. Almost five decades have passed since the Nicolis Museum opened its doors, and it is still technology in our country today, we talked about it with its president Silvia Nicolis. Then there are the regrets of a “car wrecker” in love with cars, if it’s an Alfa Romeo GT 1750 everything else is… scrap. From those who scrap them to those who restore them, in Pinerolo there is a craftsman who with his structure brings old Alfa back to life, but you have to be patient, even a couple of years. And then a bit of motorsport: we will tell you about the second life of Eng. Chilli after the Autodelta. And finally the last of the GTA 1300 Junior.
Lots of content, and more pages, for the first Alpha Perfume of the year. To inaugurate the new course from this issue we have the back cover in the style of “Domenica del Corriere”, designed by Antonio Molino who, as his uncle Walter did, illustrated us behind the scenes of the commercial made 26 years ago for the launch of the Alfa Romeo 156.
