The eternal youth of a four-leaf clover
A little over half a century has passed between the Giulia TI Super and the Giulia Quadrifoglio Nring, but looking at them side by side is like hearing two different voices singing the same melody. Different in era, technology, regulations, and even aesthetic tastes, but united by an invisible thread called passion.
The TI Super of the 1960s was a rebellious sedan, lightened and made more aggressive for racing. Weighing just 1,000 kg, with dual carburetors and a heart capable of thrilling even at moderate revs, it made history in touring car racing thanks to the private teams and Alfa Romeo enthusiasts who proudly raced it. It was the car that transformed family men into Sunday drivers, without ever sacrificing the elegance of its unmistakable lines.
On the other hand, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the symbol of an Alfa Romeo that has returned to make enthusiasts’ hearts beat faster, thanks to a 510 hp twin-turbo V6 and a record lap at the Nürburgring that consecrated it as the queen of sports sedans. The limited-edition “Nring” celebrates that feat, reminding everyone that the Quadrifoglio is not just a symbol, but a promise of emotions that unfortunately will never return, given that the petrol-powered Giulia has gone out of production, no longer able to comply with anti-pollution regulations.
These two souls, profoundly different yet united by the same heritage, are the ones we’ve chosen as the cover car for this issue. Our comparison isn’t about a clear winner—the eras and contexts are too different—but rather about celebrating a shared history. Because if there’s one thing Alfa Romeo has taught us, it’s that true youth isn’t measured in years or horsepower: it’s measured in the heartbeats every time you turn the key.
And if that wasn’t enough…
This passion for the brand, unconstrained by time or fashion, drove us to explore the world of collecting. We spoke with Corrado and Duccio Lopresto, who revealed the secrets to taking the first steps in this fascinating lifestyle. A style and passion that has been around for 99 years, as long as the RLSS, which was photographed in Pandino Castle surrounded by countless Visconti coats of arms. We then moved on to the Black Continent, where, at the Alfa Romeo factory in South Africa, a splendid right-hand drive Alfetta GTV rolled off the production line in the early 1980s, but not only that… and to finish off in style, a beautiful station wagon, but with a V6 snake engine and the GTA logo on the tailgate. Curious?
Happy reading.
