For the title of this editorial we wanted to be inspired by a famous song by Memo Remigi from 1965, composed a year before the launch of the legendary GT 1300 Junior, and that perhaps many of our fathers sang while driving their coupe through the streets of the Milanese city. And it is a necessary quote because, just five days after its presentation, when the comments (positive and negative) on the newborn Alfa Romeo Milano regarding its line of engines had not yet subsided, and not least the initials “Milan”, despite the name that recalls one of the most iconic cities in the country and the decision of Stellantis to build it in Poland, it raised questions about the genuineness and authenticity of the choice especially by the Minister of business and made in Italy Adolfo Urso who has put his decisive veto. To solve the problem, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato immediately renamed it Junior (translated from Latin, younger), but the substance does not change.
By now this diatribe is a thing of the past because the real obstacle to overcome (and this applies to all car manufacturers) we will find it in a few weeks when there will be votes for the new European Parliament, which will decide on the future of private mobility on the road and, above all, on the energy transition to electricity, which currently the Italians are demonstrating to reject without appeal also due to the chronic lack of infrastructure and energy costs now comparable to those of gasoline. In light of these choices we will see what the decisions of the Alfa Romeo management will be on the future of this company. At a time when technological innovation and environmental sustainability drive the automotive industry’s choices, Alfa Romeo faces a crucial challenge. Will he be able to combine his historical heritage with the needs of tomorrow?
