Modern evolution of ancient horse racing, motoring has always fascinated the public.
Hungry for strong emotions, the audience of the Belle Époque was attracted by the nascent automobile, improbable, noisy and dangerous machines, whose performance nevertheless continued to improve. The first races organized on roads open to traffic turned out to be a carnage. The circuit quickly established itself as the safest way to practice competition. Real temples dedicated to speed, Brooklands, Monza, Indianapolis and Montlhéry already presented themselves as essential venues between the two world wars.
Motoring resumed with renewed vigor after 1945, experiencing a new boom with the democratization of the automobile. It was the golden age of some legendary events, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Monaco Grand Prix. But subsequent oil crises and growing environmental concerns would have significantly changed the outlook. At the dawn of the 21st century, motorsport had to reinvent itself to face these new challenges. More technical events emerged, which took place on cutting-edge tracks designed by the best engineers in the industry.
