This technical x-ray of the Abarth 2000cc type 236 engine closes the history of the “Bialbero” 4-cylinder engines that began in 1957 with the 750cc designed by Eng. G. Colombo is derived from the Fiat 600. It continued until 1972 giving Mr. Abarth and all his collaborators the pleasure of working with commitment and passion on each of the many projects born in fifteen years.
The 2000cc engine was born in 1963 out of necessity as Fiat modified the “J” annex by increasing the displacement of the 1600 class to 2000cc; we transported the existing 1600 Abarth Simca engine increasing the boring and stroke and on the bench the prototype provided a power of 197.13 hp at the speed of 7400 rpm/1. The evolution of the engine with structural interventions (4-valve head per cylinder, bore brought to 92 mm) and indirect mechanical injection has made it possible to obtain a power of 283 hp at 9400 g/1.
Among the many successes of the engine mounted on the cars of the Scorpion I mention the World Record on the 500 meters traveled in 12″855/1000 in the E class (2000cc) of October 27, 1966 and the European Sports Prototype Championship of 1972 won with the Abarth Osella SE021 car.
